Proper pronunciation of words gives you confidence in speaking.

Listed below are notes (1 page each) – with examples – covering a few essential topics on pronunciation. When we meet, further examples, with guidance and explanation, will be given so as to ensure that you clearly understand the underlying principles and are able to apply them in real situations. Further topics would be added depending on your needs.

1. 1. • Vowels and Diphthongs: transcriptions with examples
      • Placement of word stress (candlelight, copyright, footbridge, lipstick)
      • Shifting of word stress (diplomat, diplomacy, diplomatic)
      • word-pairs: same letter pronounced differently (nature vs. natural; athlete vs. athletic; diagnosis vs. diagnostic; Bible vs. Biblical)
      • The initial 'com' pronounced differently (comfortable, common, commendable)
      • Same consonants pronounced differently (child, stomach, chauffeur)
