Concession, Condition and Purpose

 

Guidance will be given to enable you to (a) clearly see the linguistic structures of the following expressions; and (b) readily produce expressions with such structures.
To ensure your success, adequate examples will be further provided with clear explanation.

 

 

Concession

    • Though well over eighty, he can walk faster than I can.

Condition

Purpose

    • I quitted smoking for fear that I might get addicted.
    • I ignored his remark in order not to prolong the dispute.
    • The school closes earlier so that the children can get home before dark.

    • I stood aside for her to enter.
    • He has gone to England (in order) to perfect his English.
